Why Medication Storage Matters More Than You Think
Most people store medication wherever is convenient, often the bathroom cabinet. Unfortunately, that’s one of the worst places for it.
Heat and humidity break down active ingredients faster, reducing potency. Light exposure can also degrade certain drugs. A cool, dry drawer or cabinet away from direct sunlight works far better.
Keep medications in their original containers so dosage instructions and expiration dates stay visible. Never transfer pills into unlabeled containers, especially in households with children.
Check expiration dates regularly and dispose of old medication safely rather than keeping it “just in case.” Expired drugs can lose effectiveness or, in rare cases, become harmful.
Proper storage is a small effort that protects both the medication’s effectiveness and your family’s safety.
